Each trumpet sounded against Rome. The barbarian invasions, the rise of Islam, and the Ottoman Empire.
The seven seals told the story of the assembly — its purity, persecution, corruption, and vindication. The seven trumpets tell a different story: Yahuah's judgments upon the empire that persecuted His people.
The first four trumpets describe the fall of the Western Roman Empire through barbarian invasions. The fifth and sixth trumpets describe the rise of Islam and the Ottoman Turks — judgments upon the Eastern Roman Empire. The seventh trumpet announces the final victory of Yahuah.
"The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up."Revelation 8:7
Hail and fire mingled with blood = the devastating land campaigns of Alaric and his Visigoth armies, sweeping down from the north like a hailstorm upon the Roman countryside.
"Third part of trees burnt up, all green grass burnt up" = the devastation of Roman agriculture and countryside. The Visigoths ravaged the provinces, burning fields, destroying crops, and laying waste to the rural economy that sustained the empire.
The Sack of Rome in 410 AD by Alaric shocked the entire world. For the first time in 800 years, Rome itself was breached. The "Eternal City" was plundered for three days. This was Yahuah's first trumpet blast against the empire that had shed the blood of His saints.
"And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed."Revelation 8:8-9
Great mountain burning = a great power. Mountains in prophecy represent kingdoms (Daniel 2:35, Jeremiah 51:25). The Vandal kingdom under Genseric became the dominant naval force in the Mediterranean.
"Third part of the sea became blood, third part of ships destroyed" = Vandal naval dominance devastated Roman Mediterranean commerce. Genseric built a massive fleet and controlled the western Mediterranean for decades.
The Sack of Rome in 455 AD by Genseric's Vandals was even more thorough than Alaric's. For fourteen days, the Vandals systematically stripped Rome of its treasures, including the sacred vessels from the Temple in Jerusalem that Titus had brought to Rome in 70 AD.
Note the precision of the prophecy: the first trumpet struck the land (trees, grass). The second trumpet struck the sea (ships, sea creatures). Different invaders, different domains, exactly as written.
"And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter."Revelation 8:10-11
A great star burning like a lamp = Attila the Hun, who blazed across the sky of history like a falling star — brilliant, terrifying, and short-lived. He called himself the "Scourge of the Most High."
"Fell upon the rivers and fountains of waters" = Attila's campaigns were focused on the great river valleys of Europe: the Rhine, the Danube, and the Po. His armies devastated the inland regions, poisoning the sources of Rome's strength.
"Waters became wormwood" (bitter) = the devastation was so complete that the regions became uninhabitable. Cities along the river valleys were destroyed. Refugees from Attila's destruction of northeastern Italy fled to the lagoons of the Adriatic — founding what would become Venice.
Again, note the prophetic precision: first trumpet = land. Second trumpet = sea. Third trumpet = rivers and inland waters. Each invader struck a different part of the Roman world, exactly as prophesied.
"And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise."Revelation 8:12
Sun smitten = the imperial light of Rome's emperor extinguished. In 476 AD, Romulus Augustulus, the last Western Roman Emperor, was deposed by the Germanic chieftain Odoacer. The imperial sun went dark.
Moon smitten = the Roman Senate, which had reflected the emperor's authority as the moon reflects the sun, lost all real power and eventually ceased to function.
Stars smitten = the consuls, magistrates, and officials of Roman governance — the "stars" of the political sky — were extinguished. The entire apparatus of Western Roman government collapsed.
The four trumpets together describe the complete dismantling of the Western Roman Empire: its land ravaged (Visigoths), its sea conquered (Vandals), its rivers poisoned (Huns), and its government extinguished (476 AD). The Dark Ages had begun.
"And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!"Revelation 8:13
After the fourth trumpet, a warning angel announces three woes — because the remaining trumpets will be far worse than anything that came before.
"And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit... And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth."Revelation 9:1-3
"Star fallen from heaven" = Muhammad, who claimed to receive revelation and opened a new religious movement that spread like smoke across the earth.
"Smoke from the pit" = the false doctrine that spread rapidly, darkening the spiritual landscape. Islam swept across the Middle East, North Africa, and into Europe with astonishing speed.
"Locusts" = the Arab/Saracen warrior armies. The description in Revelation 9:7-10 matches with remarkable precision:
"They should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months" = the Arab armies conquered vast territories of the Eastern Roman Empire but did not destroy it. Constantinople survived. Eastern Rome was "tormented" but not killed — exactly as prophesied.
"And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice... saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates. And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men."Revelation 9:13-15
"Four angels bound in the Euphrates" = the four principal Ottoman sultanates that arose from the Euphrates region: Aleppo, Iconium, Damascus, and Baghdad. These Turkish powers were "bound" — restrained — until the appointed prophetic time.
"For to slay the third part of men" = unlike the fifth trumpet (Arabs who tormented but did not kill), the Ottoman Turks would deliver the death blow to the Eastern Roman Empire. Where the locusts only tormented, these horsemen would slay.
The Fall of Constantinople in 1453 to Sultan Mehmed II ended the last remnant of the Roman Empire after nearly 1,500 years. The "third part" — Eastern Rome — was finally slain.
Starting date: July 27, 1449 — when the Byzantine Emperor Constantine XI received his authority only with the permission of the Ottoman Sultan. The Eastern Empire existed only at Ottoman pleasure.
July 27, 1449 + 391 years 15 days = August 11, 1840.
Josiah Litch, an American minister, published his calculation in 1838 — two years before the fulfillment — predicting that the Ottoman Empire would lose its independence on August 11, 1840.
On that exact date, the Ottoman Empire accepted the Treaty of London, placing itself under the protection of the European powers. The Sultan could no longer act independently. The empire that had slain Eastern Rome was itself brought to nothing — on the very day predicted from Revelation 9.
Josiah Litch's prediction, fulfilled to the exact day, is one of the most remarkable prophetic confirmations in history. It was published in advance and witnessed by thousands.
"And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of Yahuah, and of His Messiah; and He shall reign for ever and ever."Revelation 11:15
The seventh trumpet encompasses the final events of earth's history: the seven last plagues, the fall of Babylon, and the glorious return of Yahusha the Messiah.
This is not a single event but a culmination. Every kingdom, every empire, every system that set itself against Yahuah and His people will be brought to nothing. The stone cut without hands (Daniel 2:34-35) will smash the image and fill the whole earth.
The first four trumpets destroyed Western Rome. The fifth and sixth trumpets destroyed Eastern Rome. The seventh trumpet will destroy every earthly kingdom and establish the everlasting kingdom of Yahuah.
| Trumpet | Power | Target | Era |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1st | Visigoths (Alaric) | Roman land / agriculture | 395–410 AD |
| 2nd | Vandals (Genseric) | Roman sea / naval power | 429–477 AD |
| 3rd | Huns (Attila) | Roman rivers / inland regions | 434–453 AD |
| 4th | Fall of Rome | Roman government extinguished | 476 AD |
| 5th (Woe 1) | Arab/Saracen armies | Eastern Rome — tormented | 612–762 AD |
| 6th (Woe 2) | Ottoman Turks | Eastern Rome — slain | 1449–1840 AD |
| 7th (Woe 3) | Yahuah's kingdom | All earthly kingdoms | Final events |
Consider the structure: trumpets 1-4 systematically dismantled Western Rome through four different domains — land, sea, rivers, government. Trumpets 5-6 systematically dismantled Eastern Rome through two waves — first tormenting (Arabs), then slaying (Turks). Trumpet 7 will dismantle every remaining kingdom.
The time prophecy of the sixth trumpet — predicted to the exact day by Josiah Litch in 1838, two years before fulfillment — should alone be sufficient to establish the divine origin of the book of Revelation and the historicist method of interpretation.
These are not allegories. These are not guesses. This is history written in advance by the One who sees the end from the beginning.
