HOW TO USE THIS WORKBOOK

The Truth Carriers Learning Method — 6 Rs

This workbook uses the 6 Rs Learning Method designed for deep understanding and long-term retention. Each lesson includes all six components:

1. RECEIVE
Read the teaching content carefully. Take notes. Look up Scripture references.
2. REFLECT
Complete all exercises: fill-in-blank, multiple choice, true/false, matching, discussion.
3. RECALL
Close the workbook and write everything you remember. Check what you missed.
4. RECITE
Teach the lesson to someone else. Explaining deepens understanding.
5. REVIEW
Use the Spaced Review Tracker. Review at Day 1, 3, 7, 21, and 60.
6. RESPOND
Apply what you learned. Knowledge without action is incomplete.

Why This Method Works:
Research shows that passive reading leads to only 10-20% retention. Active recall, teaching others, and spaced repetition can increase retention to 80-90%. Don't just read—engage!

COURSE OVERVIEW

This 10-lesson course provides practical, Scripture-based instruction for implementing Torah commands in daily modern life. The focus is on grace-empowered obedience, not legalism. Torah is presented as a blessing and gift from Yahuah—"His commandments are not burdensome" (1 John 5:3).

Course Objectives:

Lesson 1 Getting Started with Torah Living

Opening Scripture — Deuteronomy 30:11-14
"For this commandment which I command you today is not too difficult for you, nor is it out of reach... but the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it."

RECEIVE: Teaching Content

The journey into Torah observance begins with understanding that these instructions are a GIFT from Yahuah, not a test to pass or burden to bear. Psalm 119 overflows with delight—"Oh how I love Your Torah! It is my meditation all the day." This is the proper heart posture: love, not dread.

Many new Torah-keepers make the mistake of trying to implement everything at once. This leads to burnout, frustration, and often giving up entirely. Progressive sanctification means starting where you are and growing step by step. Grace covers the learning process as Yahusha's blood covers failures while learning.

Practical Guidance: Don't try everything at once. Small, consistent steps build lasting change. Yahuah sees your heart and honors your sincere efforts to walk in obedience.

Suggested Order for Implementation

OrderCommandWhy This Order
1SabbathFoundational weekly practice; creates rhythm; teaches trust
2Clean FoodsDaily application; relatively simple changes
3Biblical FeastsSeasonal rhythm (3x yearly); prophetic patterns
4TzitzitVisible daily reminder (Numbers 15:38-40)
5MezuzahHome identity marker (Deuteronomy 6:9)
6Other commandsProgressive addition as led by the Spirit

Commands Applicable Today

Of the 613 Torah commandments traditionally counted, approximately 270 apply to every person regardless of circumstances. Many commands require the Temple (sacrifices, certain purification rituals), the Land of Israel (agricultural tithes), or specific groups (priests, Levites, Nazirites). When literal application isn't possible, we study the principles to understand Yahuah's heart and apply spiritual lessons.

Avoiding Pride: Torah knowledge does not make you more righteous than Sunday-keeping believers. Each person's journey is different. Never look down on those who don't keep Torah—you are not the "Torah police." Your job is to live it out faithfully, not enforce it on others. Be a loving witness rather than preachy.

Key Terms

Progressive Sanctification — Growing in holiness step by step over time

Torah (תּוֹרָה) — Instruction, teaching — not "law" in the negative sense

Lesson 2 The Sabbath — Practical Observance

Opening Scripture — Isaiah 58:13-14
"If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure on My holy day, and call the Sabbath a delight, the holy of Yahuah, honorable... then you shall delight yourself in Yahuah."

RECEIVE: Teaching Content

When is Sabbath?

The Sabbath runs from Friday sunset to Saturday nightfall (approximately when three stars become visible, typically 42-72 minutes after sunset).

Leviticus 23:32 — "From evening to evening you shall celebrate your Sabbath."

Sunset Time Resources:

Friday Preparation Day

The Exodus 16 "double portion" concept establishes Friday as Preparation Day. Yahuah provided double manna on the sixth day with instruction to "bake what you want to bake and boil what you want to boil" before Sabbath begins.

TimePreparation Tasks
Early WeekPlan Sabbath meals, create shopping list, complete heavy cleaning
ThursdayShop for food/supplies, begin preparing foods that store well, review Torah portion
Friday MorningDeep clean as needed, set Sabbath table with nice tablecloth, begin cooking
Friday AfternoonComplete all cooking, set out candles, prepare challah/bread, bathe and dress in best clothing

What Scripture Actually Says NOT to Do

Scripture gives only 4-5 specific prohibitions. The traditional 39 categories (melachot) are rabbinic derivations, not explicit commands.

ProhibitionScriptureExplanation
Work (Melacha)Exodus 20:10Creative, purposeful work—occupational labor
Buying/SellingNehemiah 10:31, 13:15-22No commerce on Sabbath
Bearing BurdensJeremiah 17:21-22Commercial carrying for trade
Kindling FireExodus 35:3Various interpretations exist
Own Pleasure/WaysIsaiah 58:13Setting aside weekday business pursuits

What TO Do on Sabbath

Practical Modern Questions:
Electricity: Many Torah-observant believers hold that flipping a switch involves no labor. Focus on the spirit of rest—does this activity enhance or detract from Sabbath?

Emergencies: The "ox in the ditch" principle (Luke 14:5) establishes that life-preserving work is permitted. Pikuach nefesh (saving life) is paramount.

Key Terms

Erev Shabbat — Sabbath evening; Friday at sunset

Havdalah — "Separation" ceremony at Sabbath's end

Kiddush — Sanctification blessing over wine

Oneg — Delight (Isaiah 58:13)

REFLECT: Exercises
