Scientific Evidence Against Naturalistic Origins

True Science Series

How to Use This Workbook

The Truth Carriers Learning Method (6 Rs)

This workbook is designed for deep learning and long-term retention, not just information consumption. Each lesson uses the proven 6 Rs method to transform knowledge into lasting understanding:

1. RECEIVE Teaching content with Scripture foundation, key terms, and evidence boxes
2. REFLECT Multiple choice, true/false, and discussion questions to process what you learned
3. RECALL Active memory exercise - close the book and write what you remember
4. RECITE Teach-back challenge - explain the lesson to someone else
5. REVIEW Spaced repetition at Day 1, 3, 7, 21, and 60 for permanent memory
6. RESPOND Real-world application - take one concrete action before the next lesson

Why This Works

Research shows that passive reading results in only 5-10% retention after 24 hours. But when you actively recall, teach others, and apply knowledge, retention jumps to 75-90%. This workbook is designed to make truth stick.

How to Complete Each Lesson

  1. Read the teaching content carefully (RECEIVE)
  2. Answer all questions without looking back first (REFLECT)
  3. Close the workbook and write everything you remember (RECALL)
  4. Explain the lesson to someone within the week (RECITE)
  5. Review using the Spaced Review Tracker in the back (REVIEW)
  6. Apply one thing you learned before the next lesson (RESPOND)

"But be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves." - Ya'aqob (James) 1:22

Review this comprehensive study guide before beginning the lessons. Understanding these foundational concepts will greatly enhance your learning experience.

"For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Mightiness, so that they are without excuse." -- Romans 1:20

Core Thesis

Evolution is not science vs. religion - it's naturalistic philosophy vs. observed scientific laws. This workbook demonstrates that evolution violates established scientific principles while creation aligns with them. We use evidence-based arguments, drawing from secular scientific sources and admissions from evolutionists themselves.

Key Terms Glossary

Law of Biogenesis
Scientific law stating that life only comes from pre-existing life. Established by Louis Pasteur in 1864. Never violated in any observation.
Abiogenesis
The hypothetical natural process of life arising from non-living matter. Required by evolution but directly violates the Law of Biogenesis.
Hydrolysis
Chemical process where water breaks molecular bonds. Destroys the very molecules needed for life, creating a paradox for naturalistic origins.
Chirality
"Handedness" of molecules. Life requires exclusively left-handed amino acids and right-handed sugars. Natural chemistry produces 50/50 mixtures.
Homochirality
Single-handedness of molecules. Required for life but unexplained by naturalistic processes. Called "one of the most compelling mysteries."
Racemic Mixture
A 50/50 mix of left and right-handed molecules. This is what natural chemistry produces, but life cannot use racemic mixtures.
Universal Probability Bound
10^150 - the maximum number of events possible in cosmic history. Events less probable than this cannot be attributed to chance.
Irreducible Complexity
A system that requires all parts to be present simultaneously to function. Removal of any part destroys function, preventing gradual evolution.
Genetic Entropy
The accumulation of harmful mutations over generations, causing genetic degradation. Demonstrates genomes are declining, not improving.
Cambrian Explosion
The sudden appearance of nearly all animal body plans in the fossil record. Occurred in only 1.7% of supposed evolutionary time.
Information
Specified complexity that conveys meaning. DNA contains coded information. All known codes originate from intelligent sources.
Naturalism
The philosophical assumption that only natural processes exist. Not a scientific finding but a presupposition that excludes design a priori.
Radiometric Dating
Dating method measuring radioactive decay. Requires three unverifiable assumptions: known initial conditions, constant decay rates, and closed system.
Horizon Problem
Big Bang problem: distant parts of the universe are too uniform in temperature despite being too far apart for heat exchange since the supposed explosion.
Orphan Genes
Genes with no evolutionary ancestors or homologs in other species. 10-30% of any genome. Point to unique creation, not common descent.
ENCODE Project
2012 study finding at least 80% of human genome is biochemically active, destroying the "junk DNA" prediction of evolution.

Key Numbers Reference

Topic Number Significance
Simplest cell DNA 580,000 Base pairs in smallest known free-living organism
Minimum genes for life 473 Even with intelligent design, this is the minimum
One protein probability 10^77 Odds of one functional protein by chance
Universal probability bound 10^150 Maximum possible events in cosmic history
Hoyle's calculation 10^40,000 Probability of enzymes for life by chance
Miller-Urey amino acids 2 of 20 Only produced 2 of 20 needed, both unusable
Mutations per generation ~100 New mutations in human genome each generation
Cambrian Explosion duration 1.7% Of supposed fossil record duration
Human-Chimp DNA (full genome) ~84% Actual similarity, not the claimed 98%
ENCODE: functional DNA 80%+ Destroys "junk DNA" myth
Orphan genes in genomes 10-30% Genes with no evolutionary ancestors

Scientific Laws Violated by Evolution

  1. Law of Biogenesis - Life only comes from life
  2. Laws of Chemistry - Hydrolysis destroys, chirality requires design
  3. Laws of Probability - Events exceed universal probability bound
  4. Laws of Information - Codes require intelligent source
  5. Laws of Thermodynamics - Systems tend toward disorder, not complexity

Common Objections Answered

Objection: "Evolution is settled science accepted by all credible scientists."

Answer: Many highly credentialed scientists reject Darwinian evolution. More importantly, scientific truth is not determined by consensus but by evidence. Every quote in this workbook comes from mainstream secular scientists admitting the problems with their own theory.
Objection: "Creationism isn't science because it invokes the supernatural."

Answer: This objection assumes naturalism is true - the very point in question. If an intelligent Creator exists, excluding Him by definition isn't science - it's philosophy masquerading as science. True science follows evidence wherever it leads.
Objection: "Given enough time, anything is possible."

Answer: Mathematics disproves this. The universal probability bound (10^150) represents ALL possible events in cosmic history. Single proteins exceed this bound. No amount of time makes the impossible possible.
Lesson 1 of 12
The Law of Biogenesis
"And Elohim said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind." -- Genesis 1:24

The Scientific Law

The Law of Biogenesis is one of the most well-established principles in biology. It states two things:

  1. Life only comes from pre-existing life - Non-living matter cannot spontaneously generate living organisms
  2. Like produces like - Organisms reproduce according to their kind

Louis Pasteur's Proof

In 1859-1862, Louis Pasteur conducted his famous swan-neck flask experiments. He demonstrated that when sterile broth was protected from airborne contamination, no life appeared - even after extended periods. When exposed to air particles, life appeared.

"Never will the doctrine of spontaneous generation recover from the mortal blow of this simple experiment."
-- Louis Pasteur, 1864

In 1864, the French Academy of Sciences officially declared spontaneous generation disproven, awarding Pasteur the Alhumbert Prize.

Why This Matters

Evolution REQUIRES abiogenesis - life arising from non-life. This directly contradicts the Law of Biogenesis. There is no gradual pathway from chemicals to life because:
  • No observation has EVER violated the Law of Biogenesis
  • The law has been confirmed billions of times in laboratories worldwide
  • Evolutionists must believe in spontaneous generation despite the scientific evidence against it
Key Point: When evolutionists claim life arose from non-life billions of years ago, they are making a faith statement that contradicts established scientific law. They cannot point to ANY observation supporting abiogenesis.

Lesson 1 Questions

1. The Law of Biogenesis states that life comes only from:

2. Who conducted the swan-neck flask experiments that disproved spontaneous generation?

3. TRUE or FALSE: The Law of Biogenesis has been violated many times in laboratory experiments.

Explain your answer:

4. Abiogenesis (life from non-life) is a requirement for evolution. How does this contradict the Law of Biogenesis?

5. Why is it significant that the French Academy of Sciences officially declared spontaneous generation disproven in 1864?

REFUTE THIS!

A classmate says: "Science has proven that life can come from non-living chemicals. The Miller-Urey experiment showed this."

Your Challenge: Using what you learned in this lesson, write a response that:

  1. Cites the Law of Biogenesis and its history
  2. Explains why no laboratory has ever violated this law
  3. Notes the difference between observational science and evolutionary assumptions

The Chemistry Problem: Hydrolysis & The Asphalt Paradox

The Water Paradox

Water is essential for life - all living things require it. Yet water presents a devastating problem for naturalistic origins: water destroys the very molecules needed to build life.

Hydrolysis: The chemical process where water breaks molecular bonds. This is why food rots, why paper degrades, and why chemicals break down in aqueous environments.

The building blocks of life - proteins and nucleic acids - are held together by bonds that water attacks:

"In water, the weights are always stacked against the production of macromolecules... water is a corrosive agent that destroys complex organic molecules."
-- National Academy of Sciences

The Asphalt Problem

What happens when you add energy to organic chemicals? Evolutionists claim energy plus chemistry equals life. Reality shows otherwise:

"It is impossible for life to have emerged in a prebiotic soup... Organic molecules, given energy and left to themselves, don't form life. They form tar."
-- Steven Benner, Leading Origin-of-Life Researcher, 2014
The Double Problem:
  1. Water (required for life) destroys life's building blocks
  2. Energy (required for chemistry) produces tar, not life
  3. No natural environment avoids BOTH problems simultaneously
Note: Steven Benner is not a creationist - he's a leading secular researcher in origin-of-life studies. His admission comes from decades of failed experiments attempting to produce life naturally.

Lesson 2 Questions

2. According to Steven Benner, when energy is added to organic chemicals, what do they form?

3. TRUE or FALSE: Water helps build the complex molecules needed for life.

Lesson 3 of 12
Minimum Cell Complexity: The Simplest Life Isn't Simple

How Simple Is "Simple"?

Evolutionists once believed life began with a "simple cell" that gradually became more complex. Modern molecular biology has destroyed this idea. Even the simplest known free-living organism is staggeringly complex.

Mycoplasma genitalium

The smallest known organism capable of independent life has:

JCVI-syn3.0: The Synthetic Minimal Cell (2016)

Scientists at the J. Craig Venter Institute attempted to create the simplest possible cell. Even with unlimited resources and intelligent design, they could not reduce below:

The Problem: If highly trained scientists, with advanced technology, $40 million, and 15+ years of effort cannot reduce a cell below 473 genes - and can't even explain 28% of why those genes are needed - how could blind chance produce such complexity?
The minimum genome for life represents an irreducibly complex system. All 473+ genes must be present SIMULTANEOUSLY for the cell to function. There is no simpler stepping stone that natural selection could build upon.

Lesson 3 Questions

1. How many base pairs of DNA does the simplest known free-living organism have?

2. The 2016 synthetic minimal cell (JCVI-syn3.0) required a minimum of how many genes?

3. What percentage of the essential genes in the minimal cell have functions that scientists cannot explain?

4. Why is the existence of a "minimum genome" a problem for evolutionary theory?

5. TRUE or FALSE: Scientists fully understand why all 473 genes are essential for the minimal cell.

Discussion Question

If intelligent scientists with unlimited resources cannot create life simpler than 473 genes, what does this tell us about the probability of life arising by chance? Explain your reasoning.

Lesson 4 of 12
Protein Probability: The Mathematics of Impossibility

The Universal Probability Bound

Before examining protein probability, we must understand what "impossible" means mathematically.

The Universal Probability Bound = 10^150

This represents the maximum number of events that could have occurred in the entire history of the universe. Calculated by:
  • 10^80 = estimated particles in the universe
  • 10^45 = fastest possible state changes per second
  • 10^25 = seconds since the supposed Big Bang
  • 10^80 x 10^45 x 10^25 = 10^150

Any event with probability less than 1 in 10^150 cannot be attributed to chance - there simply haven't been enough opportunities in cosmic history.

The Probability of ONE Protein

Douglas Axe (Cambridge PhD, molecular biology) published research in the Journal of Molecular Biology (2004) calculating the probability of obtaining a single functional protein:

Only 1 in 10^77 random sequences of 150 amino acids will fold into a functional enzyme shape.
-- Douglas Axe, Journal of Molecular Biology, 2004
The Math Problem:
  • ONE functional protein: 1 in 10^77 probability
  • Universal probability bound: 1 in 10^150
  • Even ONE protein already approaches the limit of possibility
  • A minimal cell needs 250-500 proteins working TOGETHER
  • Probabilities MULTIPLY - the combined probability is astronomically beyond the universal bound

Earlier Research Confirms

Key Insight: These calculations come from peer-reviewed secular scientific journals, not creationist sources. The mathematics alone demonstrates that chance cannot produce even a single functional protein - let alone the hundreds needed for the simplest life.

Lesson 4 Questions

1. What is the universal probability bound?

2. According to Douglas Axe's research, what is the probability of obtaining one functional protein of 150 amino acids?

3. A minimal cell requires approximately how many proteins working together?

4. Why is the universal probability bound significant for evaluating claims about chance processes?

5. TRUE or FALSE: The probability calculations for functional proteins come only from creationist sources.

Application Scenario

Scenario: Someone says, "Given enough time, anything is possible." Using what you learned about probability, explain why this statement is mathematically false.

Miller-Urey Experiment Exposed

The Famous Experiment

In 1953, Stanley Miller and Harold Urey conducted an experiment that has been celebrated in textbooks for decades. They attempted to simulate early Earth conditions to show that life's building blocks could form naturally.

What They Actually Produced

The Results:
  • Only 2 of 20 biological amino acids (glycine and alanine - the simplest ones)
  • 100% racemic mixtures (50/50 left/right-handed) - completely unusable by life
  • Required an oxygen-free atmosphere - now known to be incorrect
  • Required a reducing atmosphere of methane and ammonia - also incorrect

What Modern Science Says

"Later research showed that the early atmosphere looked nothing like the Miller-Urey simulation."
-- NASA Astrobiology
"If the conditions were oxidizing, no amino acids were synthesized."
-- Stanley Miller (admitting his own experiment's limitations)

James Kasting (NASA) determined that early Earth's atmosphere was dominated by water vapor and CO2 from volcanic outgassing - NOT the methane and ammonia Miller used.

What Was Actually Demonstrated

The Miller-Urey experiment actually demonstrated:
  • Intelligent scientists designed the apparatus
  • Carefully selected gases were used (wrong ones, as it turns out)
  • Controlled energy was applied
  • Products were isolated before destruction
  • Result: A few unusable amino acids

This is evidence FOR intelligent design, not against it!

Lesson 5 Questions

1. How many of the 20 biological amino acids did the Miller-Urey experiment produce?

2. The amino acids produced were in what type of mixture?

3. According to NASA, how does the early Earth atmosphere compare to Miller's simulation?

4. List three ways the Miller-Urey experiment actually demonstrates intelligent design rather than chance:

5. Why are racemic mixtures of amino acids unusable by living things?

Lesson 6 of 12
The Chirality Problem: Handedness of Life

Understanding Chirality

Chirality refers to the "handedness" of molecules. Like your left and right hands, chiral molecules are mirror images that cannot be superimposed on each other.

The Critical Facts:
  • All amino acids in proteins: exclusively LEFT-handed (L-)
  • All sugars in DNA/RNA: exclusively RIGHT-handed (D-)
  • Natural chemistry: produces 50/50 mixtures (racemic)
  • One wrong-handed molecule can destroy protein function

Why This Matters

A single right-handed amino acid inserted into a protein chain can cause it to fold incorrectly and lose function. Life requires 100% purity - something natural chemistry never produces.

"There has been a tendency in the field to ignore the chirality issue... without reactions that favor homochirality, we wouldn't have life."
-- Donna Blackmond, Scripps Research Institute
"The origin of the single chirality of most biomolecules is still a great puzzle... one of the most compelling and unresolved mysteries in the study of life's origins."
-- MDPI Symmetry Journal, 2021
The Chirality Problem:
  1. Life requires exclusively left-handed amino acids
  2. Life requires exclusively right-handed sugars
  3. Natural chemistry produces 50/50 mixtures
  4. No known natural process sorts molecules by handedness
  5. Miller-Urey and ALL similar experiments produce racemic mixtures
Key Insight: Evolutionists call chirality "one of the most compelling mysteries" because there is NO natural explanation for how life obtained homochirality. The required purity points to intentional design, not random chemistry.

Lesson 6 Questions

1. What handedness are ALL amino acids in proteins?

2. What handedness are ALL sugars in DNA and RNA?

3. What type of mixture does natural chemistry produce?

4. A 2021 scientific journal called the origin of single chirality "one of the most _______ mysteries."

The Chicken-and-Egg Problem

The Interdependence Dilemma

Modern molecular biology has revealed a fundamental problem: the essential components of life are interdependent. Neither can exist without the other.

The Circular Dependency:
  • DNA cannot replicate without protein enzymes (DNA polymerase)
  • Proteins cannot be produced without DNA instructions
  • The genetic code (translation system) requires BOTH to exist already
  • Neither can exist or function without the other
"This interdependence of biology leads to apparent paradoxes for the start of life: which came first, nucleic acids or proteins - the chicken or the egg?"
-- Georgia Tech Researchers, 2020

The RNA World Hypothesis

To escape this dilemma, some scientists proposed that RNA came first, since RNA can both store information AND perform some catalysis. However:

Problems with RNA World:
  • RNA is highly unstable - breaks down at moderate temperatures
  • No demonstrated self-replication of RNA without enzymes
  • RNA catalysis requires implausibly long strands
  • How did RNA transition to DNA/protein system? No pathway known
"The RNA world hypothesis: the worst theory of the early evolution of life (except for all the others)"
-- Harold Bernhardt, Biology Direct, 2012
What This Means: The chicken-and-egg problem has no naturalistic solution. The simultaneous appearance of interdependent systems - DNA, RNA, proteins, and the translation machinery - points to intelligent creation, not gradual evolution.

Lesson 7 Questions

1. DNA cannot replicate without which essential component?

2. Proteins cannot be produced without:

3. The proposed solution to the chicken-and-egg problem is called:

4. Harold Bernhardt described the RNA World Hypothesis as "the _______ theory... except for all the others."

DNA: The Information Problem

DNA as Information

DNA is not merely a chemical - it is a coded information system. This distinction is crucial.

Human Genome Statistics:
  • 3 billion base pairs
  • ~6 billion bits of information
  • ~750 megabytes equivalent
  • DNA is 10^8 times more efficient than flash memory

The Nature of Codes

DNA functions as a language with grammar, syntax, and meaning. It uses a four-letter alphabet (A, T, G, C) arranged in three-letter "words" (codons) that specify amino acids.

The Universal Observation: All known codes come from intelligent sources. No exception has EVER been observed. No natural process produces specified information. This is not a religious claim - it's an empirical observation.

Craig Venter's "Synthetic Life" (2010)

Scientists claimed to create "synthetic life," but what actually happened?

What This Actually Demonstrates: The world's smartest scientists could only insert DESIGNED code into EXISTING machinery. They didn't create life from scratch - they proved that intelligent design is required.

Lesson 8 Questions

1. How many base pairs are in the human genome?

2. All known codes come from what type of source?

3. Craig Venter's "synthetic life" project cost approximately:

Genetic Entropy: The Wrong Direction

The Theory vs. The Evidence

Evolution requires beneficial mutations to accumulate, creating new information and complexity. But what does the evidence actually show?

Dr. John Sanford - Cornell University Professor
  • 30+ years as professor
  • Invented "gene gun" technology
  • 100+ scientific publications
  • Former evolutionist - changed view based on evidence

The Data

"Each individual may carry approximately 100 lethal equivalents of slightly deleterious mutations."
-- Kondrashov, Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1995
"Complete relaxation of selection would cause 1-5% fitness decline per generation."
-- Lynch, PNAS, 2010
The Direction Problem:
  • Evolution REQUIRES: beneficial mutations accumulating (upward)
  • Reality SHOWS: harmful mutations accumulating (downward)
  • The genome is DEGRADING, not improving
  • This is the opposite of what evolution predicts
Genetic Entropy: Rather than improving over time, genomes are slowly deteriorating. This is consistent with creation (starting perfect, now declining due to the curse) but contradicts evolution (starting simple, becoming complex).

Lesson 9 Questions

1. How many new mutations does each human acquire per generation?

2. Most mutations are:

3. According to the evidence, the human genome is:

4. Evolution predicts genomes should be improving, but genetic entropy shows they are degrading. Explain why this is a problem for evolutionary theory:

The Cambrian Explosion & What Scientists Admit

The Cambrian Explosion

The fossil record reveals something evolution cannot explain: the sudden appearance of nearly all animal body plans in a geological instant.

The Facts:
  • ~530-520 million years ago (evolutionary dating)
  • Only 1.7% of supposed fossil record duration
  • Nearly ALL modern animal body plans appear "suddenly"
  • No ancestors in lower rock layers
The Pattern is INVERTED:
  • Phyla appear BEFORE classes
  • Classes appear BEFORE orders
  • Orders appear BEFORE families
  • This is the OPPOSITE of evolutionary predictions
"The case at present must remain inexplicable; and may be truly urged as a valid argument against the views here entertained."
-- Charles Darwin, On the Origin of Species
"Why, in subsequent periods of great evolutionary activity when countless species, genera, and families arose, have there been no new animal body plans produced, no new phyla?"
-- Richard Lewin

What Secular Scientists Admit

"An honest man, armed with all the knowledge available to us now, could only state that in some sense, the origin of life appears at the moment to be almost a miracle."
-- Francis Crick, Nobel laureate, DNA co-discoverer
"Many investigators feel uneasy stating in public that the origin of life is a mystery, even though behind closed doors they admit they are baffled."
-- Paul Davies, Arizona State University
"All of us who study the origin of life find that the more we look into it, the more we feel it is too complex to have evolved anywhere. We all believe as an article of faith that life evolved from dead matter on this planet."
-- Harold Urey, Miller-Urey experiment co-author
"When judged by the straightforward criterion of reaching (or even approaching) the ultimate goal, the origin of life field is a failure - we still do not have even a plausible coherent model."
-- Eugene Koonin, NCBI
The Answer: Body plans were CREATED, not evolved. The Cambrian Explosion is exactly what we'd expect from Genesis 1 - Yahuah creating animals "after their kind" in a short time period.

Lesson 10 Questions

1. The Cambrian Explosion occurred in what percentage of the fossil record?

2. Francis Crick (DNA co-discoverer) said the origin of life appears to be almost a:

3. Harold Urey (Miller-Urey co-author) admitted that belief in spontaneous origin of life is:

4. Eugene Koonin (NCBI) described the origin of life field as:

5. Why is it significant that these admissions come from secular scientists, not creationists?

REFUTE THIS!

An evolutionist says: "The Cambrian Explosion just shows evolution happened quickly under certain conditions."

Your Challenge: Explain why this response fails to address the evidence.

Big Bang & Radiometric Dating Flaws
"In the beginning Elohim created the heavens and the earth." -- Genesis 1:1

The Big Bang: Problems They Don't Tell You

The Big Bang theory claims the entire universe began from a singularity (a point of infinite density) that exploded and eventually formed galaxies, stars, and planets. This is presented as established fact, but there are serious scientific problems.

Problem 1: Where Did the Singularity Come From?

The Big Bang doesn't explain the origin of the singularity. It simply assumes matter/energy existed. But something cannot come from nothing without a cause - this violates the law of causality.

Problem 2: The Horizon Problem

The universe's temperature is remarkably uniform in all directions. But opposite sides of the universe are too far apart for light (or heat) to have traveled between them since the supposed Big Bang. How did they reach the same temperature?

Problem 3: The Missing Antimatter

If the Big Bang created matter, it should have created equal amounts of antimatter. When matter and antimatter meet, they annihilate each other. The universe should have destroyed itself - yet here we are. Where did the antimatter go?

Problem 4: Galaxy Formation

After the Big Bang's expansion, matter should be evenly spread out. For galaxies to form, matter must clump together. But expansion pushes matter apart. Evolutionists invoke "dark matter" (never observed) to explain this.

Radiometric Dating: Assumptions Exposed

Evolutionists use radiometric dating to claim the earth is 4.5 billion years old. But these methods are built on three unprovable assumptions:

Assumption 1: The initial conditions are known
(We must assume how much parent/daughter isotope was present at the start)
Assumption 2: The decay rate has always been constant
(We assume no acceleration or deceleration over billions of years)
Assumption 3: The system has been closed
(We assume no parent or daughter isotopes were added or removed)

Key Point: When we TEST radiometric dating on rocks of KNOWN age, it gives wildly inaccurate results. Why trust it for rocks of "unknown" age?

Lesson 11 Questions

1. What is the "horizon problem" for the Big Bang?

2. If the Big Bang created equal matter and antimatter, what should have happened?

3. Radiometric dating requires which of these ASSUMPTIONS?

4. TRUE or FALSE: Radiometric dating has accurately dated rocks of known age.

5. Why is the Mt. St. Helens dating failure significant for evolutionary timescales?

REFUTE THIS!

An evolutionist says: "Radiometric dating is the most reliable method we have - it's been proven accurate."

Your Challenge: Explain the three assumptions required and cite real examples where the method failed on rocks of known age.

Human-Chimp DNA & Junk DNA Myths Destroyed
"So Elohim created man in His own image; in the image of Elohim He created him; male and female He created them." -- Genesis 1:27

The 98% Myth Debunked

You've probably heard: "Humans and chimps share 98-99% of their DNA, proving common ancestry." This claim is repeated constantly - but it's scientifically misleading.

Problem 1: The Original Comparison Was Limited

The 1975 study by King and Wilson only compared protein-coding genes (~1.5% of the genome). The other 98.5% of the genome wasn't compared at all!

Problem 2: The Real Number Is Much Lower

When the FULL genomes are compared (not just selected regions), the similarity drops dramatically:

  • Dr. Jeffrey Tomkins (Clemson University): ~84% similarity using optimized alignment
  • Chimp genome is ~12% larger than human genome
  • Human Y chromosome differs by ~50% from chimp
Problem 3: Even 98% Proves NOTHING

Even if 98% were true:

  • The human genome has 3 billion base pairs
  • 2% difference = 60 million base pair differences
  • At typical mutation rates, this would require millions of years - far exceeding even evolutionary timescales
  • Similar design proves a common DESIGNER, not common descent
"The comparison of human and chimpanzee genomes reveals that their DNA sequences are only 84% identical when comparing the full genome, not the commonly claimed 98-99%."
-- Dr. Jeffrey Tomkins, ICR Genomics Research

Junk DNA: Evolution's Failed Prediction

For decades, evolutionists called ~98% of human DNA "junk" - leftover garbage from millions of years of evolution. This prediction has been spectacularly wrong.

The ENCODE Project (2012)
The Encyclopedia of DNA Elements project studied 147 cell types and found:
  • At least 80% of the genome is biochemically active
  • Non-coding DNA contains regulatory functions, RNA genes, and more
  • "Junk DNA" was a label of ignorance, not scientific fact
"The term 'junk DNA' is a misnomer, as this region is far from being a non-functional DNA sequence wasteland."
-- ENCODE Project Consortium, Nature, 2012
Evolution PREDICTED junk DNA. If our genome accumulated random mutations over millions of years, most DNA should be useless garbage.

Creation PREDICTED function. A designed genome would have purpose throughout.

Creation was RIGHT. ENCODE proved the genome is information-rich, not junk-filled.

Orphan Genes: Another Problem

Every genome contains thousands of "orphan genes" - genes with no evolutionary ancestors. They appear unique to each species with no homologs in other species.

The Numbers:
  • 10-30% of genes in any genome are orphan genes
  • They appear fully functional with no transitional forms
  • Cannot be explained by gene duplication or modification
"Orphan genes have no discernible homologs in other species... their origin remains largely mysterious."
-- Tautz & Domazet-Losho, Nature Reviews Genetics, 2011

Lesson 12 Questions

1. The original 1975 human-chimp comparison only examined what percentage of the genome?

2. According to Dr. Jeffrey Tomkins' full-genome analysis, human-chimp similarity is approximately:

3. The ENCODE project found that at least what percentage of the genome is biochemically active?

4. What are "orphan genes" and why are they a problem for evolution?

5. TRUE or FALSE: The "junk DNA" prediction of evolution was confirmed by modern research.

REFUTE THIS!

An evolutionist says: "We share 98% of our DNA with chimps, proving we evolved from a common ancestor."

Your Challenge: Respond with:

  1. Problems with the 98% claim itself
  2. What full-genome comparisons actually show
  3. Why similarity proves a Designer, not common descent

Complete Answer Key

For instructors and self-checking. Review after completing each lesson.

Lesson 1: The Law of Biogenesis

1. B) Pre-existing life

The Law of Biogenesis states that life comes only from pre-existing life. This has been confirmed billions of times without exception.

2. C) Louis Pasteur

Louis Pasteur conducted the swan-neck flask experiments in 1859-1862, definitively disproving spontaneous generation.

3. FALSE

The Law of Biogenesis has NEVER been violated in any laboratory observation. No one has ever observed life arising from non-life.

4. Sample Answer:

Evolution requires abiogenesis (life from non-life) to have occurred at least once. But the Law of Biogenesis, established as scientific law, states this is impossible. Evolution's foundational requirement directly contradicts established scientific law.

5. Sample Answer:

This is significant because it shows spontaneous generation was officially rejected by the scientific establishment over 160 years ago. Modern evolutionists who believe life arose from non-life are actually returning to a pre-scientific view that was experimentally disproven.

Lesson 2: The Chemistry Problem

1. B) Water breaks molecular bonds

Hydrolysis is the chemical process where water breaks molecular bonds, destroying the very molecules needed for life.

2. D) Tar (asphalt)

Steven Benner stated that organic molecules given energy "don't form life. They form tar."

3. FALSE

Water DESTROYS complex molecules through hydrolysis. The National Academy of Sciences calls water "a corrosive agent that destroys complex organic molecules."

4. Sample Answer:

The paradox is that water is essential for life - all living things require it. Yet water destroys the building blocks of life through hydrolysis. Life needs water to exist, but life's components cannot form in water.

5. Sample Answer:

Benner is a leading secular origin-of-life researcher, not a creationist. His admission cannot be dismissed as religious bias. When the experts themselves say their theory is "impossible," it carries significant weight.

Lesson 3: Minimum Cell Complexity

1. D) 580,000

Mycoplasma genitalium, the simplest known free-living organism, has 580,000 base pairs of DNA.

2. D) 473

Even with intelligent design, scientists could not create a functioning cell with fewer than 473 genes.

3. D) 28%

28% of essential genes have functions that scientists cannot explain - they just know they're necessary.

4. Sample Answer:

Evolution requires a gradual pathway from simple to complex. But there is no cell simpler than ~473 genes that can survive. All 473 genes must be present simultaneously, meaning there's no simpler stepping stone for natural selection to act upon.

5. FALSE

Scientists do NOT fully understand why all genes are essential - 28% have unknown functions.

Lesson 4: Protein Probability

1. C) 10^150

The universal probability bound represents the maximum possible events in cosmic history.

2. C) 1 in 10^77

Douglas Axe's research found that only 1 in 10^77 random sequences would produce a functional protein.

3. C) 250-500

A minimal cell requires 250-500 proteins working together simultaneously.

4. Sample Answer:

The universal probability bound tells us the maximum number of opportunities the universe has ever provided. Events less probable than 1 in 10^150 cannot be attributed to chance - there simply haven't been enough opportunities in cosmic history.

5. FALSE

These calculations come from peer-reviewed secular scientific journals (Journal of Molecular Biology), not creationist sources.

Lesson 5: Miller-Urey Experiment

1. D) Only 2

The experiment produced only glycine and alanine - the two simplest amino acids of the 20 needed.

2. C) Racemic (50/50 mix - unusable)

All amino acids produced were racemic mixtures, which are completely unusable by life.

3. C) It looked nothing like the simulation

NASA Astrobiology states the early atmosphere "looked nothing like the Miller-Urey simulation."

4. Sample Answer:

1) Intelligent scientists designed the apparatus. 2) Gases were carefully selected (even if wrong). 3) Energy was precisely controlled. 4) Products were isolated before destruction. This shows intelligence was required even to produce unusable results.

5. Sample Answer:

Life uses exclusively left-handed amino acids. Racemic mixtures contain equal amounts of left and right-handed molecules. Even one wrong-handed amino acid can destroy protein function, so 50/50 mixtures are completely unusable.

Lesson 6: The Chirality Problem

1. B) Left-handed only

All amino acids in proteins are exclusively left-handed (L-amino acids).

2. A) Right-handed only

All sugars in DNA/RNA are exclusively right-handed (D-sugars).

3. C) Racemic (50/50) mixtures

Natural chemistry always produces racemic mixtures of equal left and right-handed molecules.

4. C) Compelling and unresolved

The journal called it "one of the most compelling and unresolved mysteries."

5. Sample Answer:

Natural chemistry only produces 50/50 mixtures, but life requires 100% purity. No natural process is known that can sort molecules by handedness. This means the homochirality of life cannot be explained by natural processes - it points to design.

Lesson 7: The Chicken-and-Egg Problem

1. B) Protein enzymes

DNA requires protein enzymes (specifically DNA polymerase) to replicate.

2. B) DNA instructions

Proteins cannot be produced without the coded instructions contained in DNA.

3. B) The RNA World Hypothesis

Scientists proposed RNA came first since it can store information and perform limited catalysis.

4. B) Worst

Bernhardt called it "the worst theory... except for all the others" - meaning all options are problematic.

5. Sample Answer:

DNA and proteins are mutually dependent - neither can exist without the other. There's no gradual pathway because a partial system doesn't function. Both must appear simultaneously, which points to intelligent creation rather than gradual evolution.

Lesson 8: DNA - The Information Problem

1. D) 3 billion

The human genome contains approximately 3 billion base pairs.

2. C) Intelligent sources

All known codes come from intelligent sources - no exception has ever been observed.

3. C) $40 million

The synthetic life project cost approximately $40 million over 15 years.

4. FALSE

They took an existing cell, removed its DNA, and inserted designed DNA. The cell's existing machinery did the work. They didn't create life from scratch - they modified existing life using intelligent design.

5. Sample Answer:

DNA is a coded information system with grammar, syntax, and meaning. All known codes come from intelligent sources - this is an empirical observation, not a religious claim. Since we have no examples of codes arising naturally, the code in DNA logically points to an intelligent source.

Lesson 9: Genetic Entropy

1. C) ~100

Each human acquires approximately 100 new mutations per generation.

2. C) Near-neutral but slightly harmful

Most mutations are near-neutral but slightly harmful - not beneficial as evolution requires.

3. C) Slowly degrading

The evidence shows the human genome is degrading due to accumulating harmful mutations.

4. Sample Answer:

Evolution requires beneficial mutations to accumulate, building new information and complexity. But the evidence shows harmful mutations accumulating while selection cannot remove them fast enough. The direction is DOWN (degradation) not UP (improvement) - the opposite of evolutionary predictions.

5. Sample Answer:

The biblical account describes creation as originally "very good" but now subject to the curse. Genetic entropy - starting perfect and degrading - is exactly what we'd expect. Evolution predicts the opposite (starting simple, becoming complex), which contradicts the evidence.

Lesson 10: Cambrian Explosion & Scientist Admissions

1. B) 1.7%

The Cambrian Explosion occurred in only 1.7% of the supposed fossil record duration.

2. C) Miracle

Crick said the origin of life "appears at the moment to be almost a miracle."

3. B) An article of faith

Urey admitted "We all believe as an article of faith that life evolved from dead matter."

4. C) A failure

Koonin called the origin of life field "a failure" with no "plausible coherent model."

5. Sample Answer:

When secular scientists - who have no religious motivation to doubt evolution - admit the theory has fundamental problems, their admissions carry special weight. They cannot be dismissed as biased creationists. Their honesty reveals that the problems with evolution are scientific, not religious.

Lesson 11: Big Bang & Radiometric Dating Flaws

1. B) Distant parts of the universe are too uniform in temperature to have exchanged heat

The horizon problem shows that opposite sides of the universe have the same temperature, but are too far apart for heat exchange since the supposed Big Bang.

2. B) They should have annihilated each other

Matter and antimatter annihilate when they meet. If the Big Bang created equal amounts, the universe should have self-destructed.

3. D) ALL of the above

Radiometric dating requires ALL three assumptions: known initial conditions, constant decay rates, and a closed system. None can be verified for ancient rocks.

4. FALSE

When tested on rocks of KNOWN age (Mt. St. Helens 1980, Hawaiian lava 1801), radiometric dating gives wildly wrong ages - millions or billions of years for rocks less than 200 years old.

5. Sample Answer:

The Mt. St. Helens failure is devastating because we KNOW the rock is only decades old, yet radiometric dating says millions of years. If the method fails on rocks of known age, why trust it for rocks of "unknown" age? The entire evolutionary timescale is built on an unreliable foundation.

Lesson 12: Human-Chimp DNA & Junk DNA Myths

1. C) ~1.5% (protein-coding genes only)

The original 1975 comparison only examined protein-coding genes, which represent ~1.5% of the genome. The other 98.5% was not compared.

2. B) 84%

Dr. Jeffrey Tomkins' full-genome analysis found ~84% similarity, not the commonly claimed 98-99%.

3. D) 80%

The ENCODE project found at least 80% of the genome is biochemically active, destroying the "junk DNA" myth.

4. Sample Answer:

Orphan genes are genes with no evolutionary ancestors - they appear unique to each species with no homologs in other organisms. 10-30% of any genome consists of orphan genes. They cannot be explained by gene duplication or common descent - they appear fully functional with no transitional forms, pointing to unique creation.

5. FALSE

The "junk DNA" prediction was WRONG. Evolution predicted most DNA would be useless garbage from millions of years of mutations. The ENCODE project proved at least 80% is functional. Creation predicted purpose throughout - and was confirmed.

REFUTE THIS! - Sample Responses

Key Points for Strong Refutations:

1. Always cite specific scientists and their admissions
2. Use numbers and data (probability bounds, percentages, dates)
3. Note when the admission comes from secular scientists (not creationists)
4. Distinguish between observation and assumption
5. Point out when evolution's predictions were WRONG (junk DNA, simple cells, etc.)
6. Connect the evidence to what Scripture teaches
