Long ago, people sailed across the ocean to start a new country. They wanted to be FREE to worship Elohim!

Lesson 1: The Pilgrims Come to America

The Story

Long, long ago (in the year 1620), a group of people called the Pilgrims lived in England. They loved Elohim and wanted to worship Him their own way.

But the king said, "No! You must worship the way I tell you!"

So the Pilgrims decided to sail across the big ocean on a ship called the Mayflower to find a new home where they could be FREE!

The Pilgrims wanted freedom to worship Elohim. They were very brave! The trip across the ocean took 66 days!

When they landed, they thanked Elohim and had a big celebration - the first Thanksgiving!

Fun Fact!

There were about 102 people on the Mayflower - and some of them were children just like you!

Lesson 2: What is Freedom?

The Story

After the Pilgrims, more and more people came to America. They built homes, farms, and churches.

But America was ruled by a king far away in England. The people had to pay lots of money (called taxes) to the king, but they couldn't vote or have a say!

The people said, "This isn't fair! We want to be FREE!"

Freedom means being able to make your own choices. The people in America wanted:

"If the Son shall make you free, you shall be indeed."

Lesson 3: The Declaration of Independence

The Story

On July 4, 1776, something very important happened! Leaders from the 13 colonies met together and wrote a special paper called the Declaration of Independence.

It told the world: "We are FREE! We are our own country now!"

The Declaration says something very important about where our rights come from:

"All men are created equal, and they are given by their Creator certain rights..."

This means our rights come from Elohim, not from kings or governments!

We celebrate July 4th (Independence Day) every year because of this special day in 1776!

George Washington

The First President of the United States

"Father of Our Country"

The Story

George Washington was a brave leader. He led the American army to fight for freedom. After America won, the people wanted him to be king!

But Washington said, "No! We fought so we wouldn't have a king. I will be PRESIDENT instead - and I will only serve for a time, then let someone else lead."

Washington believed that religion (believing in Elohim) was important for a good country. He said:

"Religion and morality are necessary for a good government."

This means he thought people should follow Elohim's rules!

Fun Fact!

Washington is on the one dollar bill and the quarter! Look for him next time you see money!

Lesson 5: The Liberty Bell

The Story

In Philadelphia, there is a very special bell called the Liberty Bell. It has a Bible verse written on it!

Leviticus 25:10 (On the Liberty Bell)
"Proclaim throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof."

The Liberty Bell was rung to celebrate freedom! The verse on it is about the Year of Jubilee - when slaves were set free and debts were forgiven.

This verse reminded people that true freedom comes from following Elohim's Word!

Fun Fact!

The Liberty Bell has a big crack in it! No one knows exactly how it got cracked, but it can't ring anymore.

Lesson 6: Thanking Elohim for Freedom

The Story

From the very beginning, Americans thanked Elohim for their blessings. The Pilgrims had Thanksgiving. George Washington called for a day of prayer and thanks.

We should always remember to thank Elohim for our blessings - especially our freedom!

"Enter into His gates with , and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name."

The most important freedom isn't just being free in a country - it's being free in our hearts through Yahusha!

When we follow Yahusha, we are free from sin. That's the best freedom of all!
