On Day 4 of creation, Yahuah made something special. He said, "Let there be lights in the sky!" And suddenly... the sun appeared to shine in the daytime! The moon appeared to glow at night! And billions of tiny stars sparkled like diamonds!

Yahuah didn't make these lights just to look pretty. He made them to help us know when it's day and when it's night. He made them to show us when special days are coming. He made them to count days and years!
"He made the stars also." – Genesis 1:16
The sun, moon, and stars are like Yahuah's giant clock in the sky! They help us know when to wake up, when to sleep, and when to celebrate His special days!

2 The Moon – Yahuah's Night Calendar

📖 READ

Have you ever noticed that the moon changes shape? Sometimes it looks like a big round ball. Sometimes it looks like a banana! Sometimes you can barely see it at all!

Yahuah uses the moon like a calendar! When the tiny sliver of a new moon appears, a new month begins! When the moon is big and full, it's time for special celebrations like Passover!

The moon goes through its shapes every 29 or 30 days. That's one month in Yahuah's calendar!
"He appointed the moon for seasons (moedim)." – Psalm 104:19
"Moedim" is a Hebrew word that means "appointed times" – these are special days when Yahuah meets with His people!

💭 REMEMBER

1. What does the moon help us keep track of? A (hint: it tells us when months begin)
2. When does a new month begin in Yahuah's calendar?
When the moon appears
3. Circle the picture that shows a FULL moon:
🌑    🌓    🌕    🌙
4. How many days is one moon cycle? About days

🗣️ RETELL

Watch for the new moon with your child this month. When you spot the thin crescent, explain that this marks the start of a biblical month!

3 Stars That Tell Stories

📖 READ

Did you know that Yahuah knows every single star by name? There are billions and billions of stars, but He counts them all and calls each one!

The Bible even mentions some stars by name:
Pleiades (PLEE-uh-deez) – A group of stars that look like tiny jewels!
Orion (oh-RYE-un) – A constellation with a belt of three stars in a row!

Yahuah asked Job, "Can you bind the Pleiades? Can you loose the belt of Orion?" Only Yahuah is powerful enough to control the stars!
"He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by their names." – Psalm 147:4
The Pleiades star cluster is sometimes called the "Seven Sisters" because you can often see about seven stars close together!

4 The Heavens Speak

When you look up at the night sky and see thousands of twinkling stars, they're all saying, "Look how amazing our Creator is! Look how powerful He is! Look how beautiful His work is!"

The sky is like a picture book that shows everyone on earth – no matter what language they speak – how wonderful Yahuah is!
