"And Elohim made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and Elohim saw that it was good." - Genesis 1:25

1Sorting Animals into Groups

RECEIVE - Learn About Classification!

Yahuah made SO many different animals! To study them, scientists sort animals into groups based on what they have in common. This is called classification.

"So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field."
- Genesis 2:20

Adam was the first person to classify animals! Yahuah brought each animal to Adam to see what he would call it.

The 6 main animal groups are:

🐕
Mammals

Fur or hair, milk for babies

🦅
Birds

Feathers, wings, lay eggs

🦎
Reptiles

Scales, cold-blooded

🐸
Amphibians

Water and land, moist skin

🐟
Fish

Fins, gills, live in water

🦋
Insects

6 legs, 3 body parts

Yahuah made animals "after their kind." Dogs have puppies (not kittens!). Eagles have eaglets (not fish!). Animals reproduce their own kind - just as Yahuah designed!

REFLECT - Test Your Knowledge!

1. What do we call sorting animals into groups?

2. Who was the first person to name animals?

Match the animal to its group:

Dog =

Eagle =

Shark =

Butterfly =

RECALL - Draw and Label!

Draw one animal from each group: mammal, bird, fish. Label each one!

RESPOND - Explore Together!

2Mammals - The Warm-Blooded Group

RECEIVE - What Makes a Mammal?

Mammals are a special group of animals. YOU are a mammal too!

MAMMALS

All mammals share these features:

Fur or hair Warm-blooded Drink mother's milk Live babies (most) Breathe air with lungs
"And Elohim made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind."
- Genesis 1:25
🐄
Cattle

Farm mammal

🦁
Lion

Wild mammal

🐋
Whale

Ocean mammal

🦇
Bat

Flying mammal

Whales are mammals, not fish! They breathe air, have warm blood, and nurse their babies with milk. Yahuah designed them to live in the ocean even though they're mammals!

Bats are the ONLY mammals that can truly fly! Their wings are actually hands with skin stretched between very long fingers. Amazing design!

REFLECT - All About Mammals!

1. What do baby mammals drink?

2. What covers a mammal's body?

3. Is a whale a fish or a mammal?

Circle all the mammals:

dog | shark | cat | frog | elephant | eagle | horse | snake

RECALL - Name That Mammal!

Write 5 mammals you know:

RESPOND - Explore Together!

3Birds - Creatures of the Air

RECEIVE - What Makes a Bird?

Yahuah made birds on Day 5 of Creation to fill the skies with song and beauty!

BIRDS

All birds share these features:

Feathers Wings Beak (no teeth) Lay eggs Warm-blooded Hollow bones
"And Elohim created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and Elohim saw that it was good."
- Genesis 1:21
🦅
Eagle

Bird of prey

🐦
Sparrow

Songbird

🐧
Penguin

Flightless bird

🦉
Owl

Night hunter

Birds have HOLLOW bones to make them light enough to fly! But these bones are still very strong. Yahuah designed the perfect balance of light AND strong!

Some birds can't fly (penguins, ostriches, emus), but they still have feathers and lay eggs - they're still birds! Yahuah made each bird perfectly for where it lives.

REFLECT - Bird Knowledge!

1. What covering do ALL birds have?

2. How do baby birds come into the world?

3. On what day of Creation did Yahuah make birds?

True or False:

All birds can fly. _____ (True/False)

Birds have hollow bones. _____ (True/False)

Penguins are not birds. _____ (True/False)

RECALL - Draw Your Favorite Bird!

Draw a bird and label: feathers, beak, wings

RESPOND - Explore Together!

4Reptiles and Amphibians

RECEIVE - Cold-Blooded Creatures!

Reptiles and amphibians are both cold-blooded, which means their body temperature changes with their environment. But they're very different!

REPTILES
Dry, scaly skin Cold-blooded Breathe with lungs Lay eggs on land

Examples: snakes, lizards, turtles, crocodiles

AMPHIBIANS
Moist, smooth skin Cold-blooded Live in water AND on land Lay eggs in water

Examples: frogs, toads, salamanders, newts

"And every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind."
- Genesis 1:25

Amphibians go through an amazing change called metamorphosis! A tadpole with gills becomes a frog with lungs. Only Yahuah could design such an incredible transformation!
Feature Reptiles Amphibians
Skin Dry, scaly Moist, smooth
Eggs On land In water
Young Look like parents Change form (metamorphosis)

REFLECT - Reptile or Amphibian?

1. Which has dry, scaly skin?

2. Which lays eggs in water?

Write R (Reptile) or A (Amphibian):

Frog ___ | Snake ___ | Turtle ___ | Salamander ___ | Lizard ___ | Toad ___

RESPOND - Explore Together!

5Fish - Creatures of the Waters

RECEIVE - Made for the Water!

On Day 5, Yahuah filled the seas with fish! Fish are perfectly designed to live underwater.

FISH

All fish share these features:

Live in water Breathe with gills Have fins Most have scales Cold-blooded Most lay eggs
"So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts."
- Psalm 104:25
🐠
Tropical Fish

Bright colors

🦈
Shark

No bones!

🐡
Pufferfish

Inflates for defense

🐟
Salmon

Swims upstream

Gills are amazing! They pull oxygen OUT of water so fish can breathe underwater. You couldn't do that - but Yahuah designed fish perfectly for their watery home!

The Bible tells us which fish are clean to eat: those with FINS and SCALES (Leviticus 11:9-12). Shrimp, crab, and catfish are NOT clean because they don't have both!

REFLECT - Fish Facts!

1. What do fish use to breathe underwater?

2. What do fish use to swim?

3. According to Scripture, which fish are clean to eat?

RECALL - Draw a Fish!

Draw a fish and label: fins, gills, scales, tail

RESPOND - Explore Together!

6Insects - The Tiny Wonders

RECEIVE - Small But Amazing!

Insects are the largest group of animals on Earth! There are more insects than all other animals combined!

INSECTS

All insects share these features:

6 legs (3 pairs) 3 body parts Exoskeleton (hard outside) Antennae Most have wings

3 Body Parts: Head - Thorax - Abdomen

"Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise."
- Proverbs 6:6
🐜
Ant

Hard worker

🐝
Bee

Makes honey

🦋
Butterfly

Beautiful wings

🐞
Ladybug

Eats pests

The Bible teaches us to learn from insects! Ants work hard and prepare for the future. Bees work together as a team. Yahuah put wisdom in these tiny creatures!

A spider is NOT an insect! Spiders have 8 legs (insects have 6) and 2 body parts (insects have 3). Spiders are called arachnids!

REFLECT - Insect Inspection!

1. How many legs do ALL insects have?

2. How many body parts do insects have?

3. Is a spider an insect?

Circle the INSECTS (hint: 6 legs!):

ant | spider | butterfly | crab | bee | scorpion | grasshopper | ladybug

RECALL - Draw an Insect!

Draw an insect and label: head, thorax, abdomen, 6 legs, antennae

RESPOND - Explore Together!

7Habitats - Where Animals Live

RECEIVE - The Perfect Home!

A habitat is the natural home where an animal lives. Every habitat provides what animals need: food, water, shelter, and space.

"The beasts of the field, the birds of the sky, and the fish of the sea... all pass through the paths of the seas."
- Psalm 8:7-8
🌲
Forest

Trees, deer, bears, owls, squirrels

🏜️
Desert

Hot/dry, camels, lizards, snakes

🌊
Ocean

Saltwater, fish, whales, sharks

🌾
Grassland

Open fields, lions, zebras, buffalo

❄️
Arctic

Ice and snow, polar bears, seals

🌿
Wetland

Ponds/swamps, frogs, ducks, fish

Polar bears have BLACK skin under their white fur! This helps them absorb heat from the sun. Their hollow fur hairs also trap warm air. Yahuah designed them perfectly for the cold!

Animals don't "adapt" to become something new. Yahuah DESIGNED each animal with everything it needs for its habitat from the very beginning!

REFLECT - Match the Habitat!

Match each animal to its habitat:

Polar Bear =

Camel =

Shark =

Deer =

Frog =

1. What does a habitat provide for animals?

RECALL - Draw a Habitat!

Choose a habitat and draw 3 animals that live there:

RESPOND - Explore Together!

8Food Chains - Who Eats What?

RECEIVE - The Circle of Eating!

A food chain shows how energy moves from one living thing to another through eating. Every food chain starts with the SUN!

"These all wait upon You; that You may give them their food in due season."
- Psalm 104:27

Example Food Chain:

Sun
Grass
Grasshopper
Frog
Snake
Hawk

Producers = Plants (make their own food from sunlight)

Consumers = Animals (eat plants or other animals)

Decomposers = Break down dead things (mushrooms, bacteria)

Without the sun, there would be no food chains! Yahuah made the sun to give light and energy to all living things. The sun came before plants needed it!

REFLECT - Food Chain Fun!

1. What does every food chain start with?

2. What are plants called in a food chain?

Put this food chain in order (1-4):

___ Fox

___ Grass

___ Sun

___ Rabbit

RECALL - Create Your Own Food Chain!

Draw a food chain with at least 4 steps:

RESPOND - Explore Together!

9Life Cycles - How Animals Grow

RECEIVE - From Birth to Adult!

A life cycle shows how an animal is born, grows up, has babies, and the cycle continues. Yahuah designed each animal with its own amazing life cycle!

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die."
- Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

Different Life Cycles:

Butterfly Life Cycle (Complete Metamorphosis)

Egg
Caterpillar (Larva)
Chrysalis (Pupa)
Butterfly (Adult)

Frog Life Cycle

Eggs
Tadpole
Tadpole with legs
Frog

Mammal Life Cycle (No Metamorphosis)

Baby born alive
Drinks mother's milk
Young animal
Adult

A caterpillar completely breaks down inside the chrysalis and rebuilds into a butterfly! This is called metamorphosis. Only an all-powerful Designer could create such an amazing process!

REFLECT - Life Cycle Quiz!

1. What is metamorphosis?

2. What stage comes after a caterpillar?

Put the frog life cycle in order (1-4):

___ Adult frog

___ Eggs in water

___ Tadpole with legs

___ Tadpole

RECALL - Draw a Life Cycle!

Draw the 4 stages of a butterfly life cycle:

RESPOND - Explore Together!

10Amazing Design Features

RECEIVE - Designed for a Purpose!

Every animal has special features that help it survive. These aren't accidents - they're evidence of Yahuah's amazing design!

"O Yahuah, how manifold are Your works! In wisdom have You made them all: the earth is full of Your riches."
- Psalm 104:24
🦔
Hedgehog

Spines for protection

🦎
Chameleon

Changes color to hide

🦇
Bat

Uses sound to "see" (echolocation)

🐢
Turtle

Shell for protection

Design, Not Chance! A woodpecker has: All these features had to work together from the start! This is intelligent design by Yahuah!

An eagle can see a rabbit from 2 miles away! Yahuah gave eagles incredible eyesight to help them hunt. They can see things we would need binoculars to see!
Animal Design Feature Purpose
Giraffe Long neck Reach high leaves
Duck Webbed feet Swim through water
Arctic Fox White fur in winter Hide in snow

REFLECT - Design Detective!

1. Why does a giraffe have a long neck?

2. A chameleon can change color. This is:

Match the feature to its purpose:

Webbed feet =

Sharp claws =

Thick fur =

RECALL - Your Favorite Design!

Draw an animal and label its special design features:

RESPOND - Explore Together!
