"These are the feasts of Yahuah, holy convocations which you shall proclaim" - Leviticus 23:2

Lesson 1: What Are the Biblical Feasts?

Imagine if the Creator of the universe sent you a personal invitation: "Meet me at these specific times. I want to spend this day with you." That's exactly what the Biblical Feasts are!

"Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: 'The feasts of Yahuah, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, these are My feasts.'"
— Leviticus 23:2

Not "Jewish Holidays" — Yahuah's Appointments!

Notice something important: The Bible doesn't call these "Jewish feasts." It calls them the Feasts of Yahuah. They belong to HIM, not to any ethnic group!

The Hebrew word for these feasts is moed (מועד), which means "appointed time" or "divine appointment." Think of it like a meeting scheduled by the King of the Universe!

Lesson 2: Passover (Pesach)

Passover is the first feast of the year, and it tells the story of how Yahuah saved Israel from slavery in Egypt!

"Behold! The Lamb of Elohim who takes away the sin of the world!"
— John 1:29

The Original Passover

In Egypt, each family was to:

When the Destroyer came through Egypt, he would "pass over" any house with the blood on the door!

Yahusha Fulfilled Passover Perfectly!

Lesson 3: Unleavened Bread & Firstfruits

Feast of Unleavened Bread

Right after Passover comes a 7-day feast where you eat no leaven (yeast, baking powder, etc.).

"Purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened."
— 1 Corinthians 5:7

What does leaven represent? In the Bible, leaven usually symbolizes sin:

Fulfillment: Yahusha was buried during Unleavened Bread - the sinless One placed in the earth!

Feast of Firstfruits

During Unleavened Bread, the first sheaf of the barley harvest was waved before Yahuah as a promise that more harvest would come.

Yahusha Rose on Firstfruits! "But now Messiah is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep" (1 Corinthians 15:20). His resurrection is the promise that WE will also rise!

Lesson 4: Pentecost (Shavuot)

Fifty days after Firstfruits comes Shavuot - the Feast of Weeks (Pentecost means "fiftieth").

"When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place."
— Acts 2:1

Two Loaves of Bread

On Shavuot, the priest waved TWO loaves of bread before Yahuah. These loaves were baked WITH leaven - the only time leavened bread was used in worship! This may represent Jews and Gentiles being brought together.

Two Major Events on Shavuot

Lesson 5: The Fall Feasts - Still to Be Fulfilled!

The spring feasts were all fulfilled in Yahusha's first coming. The fall feasts are REHEARSALS for His second coming!

The Three Fall Feasts

1. Feast of Trumpets (Yom Teruah)

Date: 1st day of the 7th month

What happens: A day of trumpet blasts (shofar blowing)

Prophetic meaning: May be fulfilled at the rapture/resurrection when "the trumpet shall sound" (1 Corinthians 15:52)!

2. Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur)

Date: 10th day of the 7th month

What happens: The most solemn day - fasting and repentance. The High Priest enters the Holy of Holies.

Prophetic meaning: May be fulfilled when all Israel sees Yahusha and mourns (Zechariah 12:10)!

3. Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot)

Date: 15th-21st of the 7th month

What happens: Live in temporary shelters (sukkot) for 7 days. A time of great JOY!

Prophetic meaning: May be fulfilled when Yahuah "tabernacles" with us in the Kingdom!

Pattern: If Yahusha fulfilled the spring feasts to the exact day, why wouldn't He fulfill the fall feasts the same way?

Check Your Understanding

1. The Feast of Trumpets is called Yom in Hebrew.

Lesson 6: The Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur)

Yom Kippur is the most solemn day of the biblical year - a day of fasting, prayer, and repentance.

"For on that day the priest shall make atonement for you, to cleanse you, that you may be clean from all your sins before Yahuah."
— Leviticus 16:30

The Two Goats

On Yom Kippur, the High Priest took two goats:

Yahusha Fulfilled Both Goats!

Goat #1Goat #2
Died for our sinsCarries our sins away
Blood brought before YahuahSins removed "as far as east from west"
Future Fulfillment: Zechariah 12:10 says a day is coming when all Israel will look on Him "whom they pierced" and mourn. This national repentance may happen on a future Yom Kippur!

Check Your Understanding

Fill in the Blanks:

1. Yom Kippur is a day of and repentance.

Lesson 7: Tabernacles (Sukkot)

Sukkot is the most JOYFUL feast of all - a week-long celebration of Yahuah dwelling with His people!

"And the Word became flesh and dwelt [tabernacled] among us."
— John 1:14

Building Booths

During Sukkot, families build temporary shelters called "sukkot" (booths) and live in them for 7 days. This reminds us:

Water Pouring Ceremony

During the Temple times, priests poured water on the altar each day of Sukkot. On the LAST DAY (the "great day"), Yahusha stood up and cried:

"If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me... out of his heart will flow rivers of living water."
— John 7:37-38
Future Fulfillment: Zechariah 14:16 says that in the Kingdom, ALL nations will go up to Jerusalem to keep Sukkot! The feast points to Yahuah finally dwelling with His people forever.

Check Your Understanding

Fill in the Blanks:

1. Sukkot means "" or booths.

2. Yahusha offered " water" during the water pouring ceremony.

Lesson 8: The Weekly Sabbath - Foundation of All Feasts

Before listing the annual feasts in Leviticus 23, Yahuah first mentions the WEEKLY Sabbath. It's the foundation!

"Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation."
— Leviticus 23:3

Why Is Sabbath Listed With the Feasts?

The Sabbath is actually the FIRST "moed" (appointed time) - it happens 52 times a year! If we can't keep the weekly appointment, how can we keep the annual ones?

Sabbath = A Rehearsal

Just like the annual feasts, the weekly Sabbath is a rehearsal:

Lesson 10: Keeping the Feasts Today

Now that you know WHAT the feasts are and WHAT they mean, how can you actually observe them?

"These are the feasts of Yahuah, holy convocations which you shall proclaim at their appointed times."

  3. Pick One Feast - Maybe start with Passover (spring) or Sukkot (fall)
  4. Make It Family Time - These are meant to be celebrated together!
  5. Focus on Meaning - Remember WHAT you're commemorating
