CALCULATION #1

The 69 Weeks to Messiah

444 BC to 33 AD • Daniel's Most Precise Prophecy

The Prophecy - Daniel 9:24-26

"Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy."

"Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times."

"And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined."

— Daniel 9:24-26 (KJV)

The Mathematical Calculation

STEP 1: Understanding "Weeks"
The Hebrew word is "shabuwa" (שָׁבוּעַ) meaning "sevens" or "heptads". In this context, it refers to weeks of years, not days. This is confirmed by Daniel 10:2-3 where he specifically says "weeks of days" when referring to literal weeks.
69 weeks = 69 × 7 = 483 years
STEP 2: The Starting Point - 444 BC
Nehemiah 2:1-8 records the decree to rebuild Jerusalem's walls in the 20th year of Artaxerxes I, in the month of Nisan. Historical records confirm this was March/April 444 BC.
Starting point: Nisan 1, 444 BC
Decree: "To restore and build Jerusalem"
STEP 3: Converting Prophetic to Solar Years
Biblical prophecy uses 360-day years (12 months × 30 days). This is established in:
  • Genesis 7:11, 8:3-4 - The flood lasted 150 days = 5 months (30 days each)
  • Revelation 11:2-3 - 42 months = 1260 days (30 days per month)
  • Revelation 12:6, 14 - Time, times, half time = 1260 days = 3.5 years
483 prophetic years × 360 days = 173,880 days
173,880 days ÷ 365.25 = 476.06 solar years
STEP 4: The Exact Calculation
Sir Robert Anderson's calculation (The Coming Prince, 1894):
From: March 14, 444 BC (Nisan 1)
Add: 173,880 days
= 476 years and 24 days
Accounting for no year 0: 444 BC + 476 years = 33 AD
Result: April 6, 32 AD (Palm Sunday)
Note: Some scholars place this at 33 AD due to calendar uncertainties, but the prophecy lands exactly on Yahusha's triumphal entry.
STEP 5: "Cut Off" - The Crucifixion
The prophecy states "after" the 69 weeks, Messiah would be "cut off" (karath - כָּרַת), meaning killed or destroyed. This happened exactly one week after Palm Sunday.
Palm Sunday: Messiah presented as Prince
Good Friday: Messiah "cut off" (crucified)
Prophecy fulfilled: "but not for himself" - died for others

Historical Verification

444 BC
Artaxerxes' Decree
Artaxerxes I Longimanus issues decree to Nehemiah. Persian records and Jewish historian Josephus confirm this date. The walls were completed in 52 days (Nehemiah 6:15).
33 AD
Triumphal Entry
Yahusha enters Jerusalem on a donkey, fulfilling Zechariah 9:9. The crowds proclaim Him as King. Exactly 173,880 days from the decree.
70 AD
Temple Destroyed
"The people of the prince that shall come" (Romans under Titus) destroy Jerusalem and the temple, exactly as Daniel prophesied.

Why This Matters

This prophecy, given 500 years before Yahusha's birth, pinpoints the exact day He would present Himself as Messiah. The mathematical precision is undeniable - to the very day across nearly five centuries.

Key Understanding

If Daniel could predict the first coming to the exact day 500 years in advance, we can trust his prophecies about the second coming. The same mathematical precision applies to all prophetic calculations.

The 70th Week

Note that this is 69 weeks, not 70. The 70th week is separated - many believe it refers to the final 7 years before Yahusha's return. With the generation ending in 2027, this final week approaches.
