The First Resurrection

"Blessed and set apart is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of Yahuah and of Messiah, and shall reign with him a thousand years." Revelation 20:6

The righteous dead are raised at Yahusha's return. This is the first resurrection. Those who take part in it are immune to the second death. They reign with Yahusha for 1,000 years.

"The rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished." Revelation 20:5

The wicked are NOT raised at the first resurrection. They remain dead for the entire millennium. They are raised AFTER the 1,000 years specifically for judgment.

The Complete Sequence

1
Yahusha Returns
The righteous dead are raised. The living righteous are caught up together with them.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
2
Wicked Destroyed at His Coming
The wicked are slain by the brightness of His coming. They do not survive to enter the millennium.
2 Thessalonians 1:7-9, 2:8
3
1,000-Year Reign. The Adversary Bound.
The adversary is bound and cast into the bottomless pit. He cannot deceive the nations for 1,000 years. The righteous reign with Yahusha.
Revelation 20:1-3, 20:4
4
The Adversary Released. Gog and Magog.
After the 1,000 years, the adversary is released. He deceives the nations one final time. They surround the camp of the set-apart ones.
Revelation 20:7-9
5
Second Resurrection: The Wicked Raised for Judgment
The rest of the dead are raised. The books are opened. Every person is judged according to their works.
Revelation 20:12-13
6
Lake of Fire: The Second Death
The adversary, the beast, the false prophet, death itself, the grave, and all whose names are not in the Book of Life are cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. It is destruction, not eternal torture.
Revelation 20:10-15
7
New Heaven and New Earth
Yahuah creates a new heaven and a new earth. He dwells with His people. No more death, no more tears, no more pain. The former things have passed away.
Revelation 21:1-4

Soul Sleep, Not Immediate Heaven

The dead are ASLEEP until the resurrection. No one goes to heaven or hell immediately at death. The reward comes at the resurrection, not at death. Scripture is consistent on this point.

What Scripture Says About the State of the Dead

Daniel 12:2
"And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt."
John 11:11-14
"Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep... Then said Yahusha unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead."
Ecclesiastes 9:5
"For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward."
Psalm 146:4
"His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish."
Acts 2:29, 34
"David is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day... For David is not ascended into the heavens."

If the righteous go directly to heaven at death, why does Scripture describe a future resurrection? Why would Yahusha need to return to "raise the dead" if they are already in heaven? The entire framework of the resurrection depends on the dead being asleep, waiting for the appointed day.

The Hope

"And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of Yahuah is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and Yahuah himself shall be with them, and be their Elohim. And he shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." Revelation 21:3-4

This is the end of the story. Not floating on clouds playing harps. Yahuah dwelling with His people on a renewed earth. Real bodies. Real land. Real community. Forever.
